Whether it's your wedding, prom night, Coachella, or just a girls trip to Vegas, there are really two important factors to achieving eye makeup that lasts all night: APPLICATION and PRODUCT CHOICE.
Let's start with products: Below are four must have products for your makeup bag to keep your eye makeup on "all night long" as Lionel Richie says.
1) A great eyeshadow primer. I personally love the one by Urban Decay. It is in a tiny bottle and a little goes a long way. No more creasing and greasy eyelids.
2) Duraline by Inklot. This is a product usually only professionals know about. It turns any gel liner or shadow into a waterproof substance. You just add a TINY dot to your product and mix before applying.
3) These are the most natural looking False Eyelashes I have ever found. I don't care what waterproof mascara you swear by; there is still nothing more fool proof than a great pair of false eyelashes.
4) Setting spray. Be like the pros and use this one by Skindinavia. Spray two-three times in "X" shape over face about 6" from skin.
Now for some application tricks:
First, priming and prepping the skin properly is ABSOLUTELY KEY in how your makeup will look and last. Make sure your eyes are clear of all makeup, glue residue, etc before beginning. If you used an oil based cleanser, make sure your eye area is clear of residual oil before applying makeup. Don't skip undereye cream though. Having a dry patch under your eye will make makeup under the eye look cakey and uneven.
Second, allow primer to dry before applying shadow. Only use a small layer. When you apply shadow, do so in light layers. THIN LAYERS ARE KEY. REPEAT.
Third, after your first layer of waterproof liner, use a small eyeshadow brush to apply a super thin layer of setting powder over the line. Then add a second line. The size of the brush is really important and you need one with a little firmness to it.
Finally, when you apply the lashes, place them UNDER the top eyelash line. This is not as hard or scary as it sounds. They will last longer because they won't peel off and they are virtually invisible when you apply in this manner vs the traditional way.
PS Don't skip the setting spray!
If you follow these tips, the only thing not staying on all night will probably be your heels!
